Seeing life in a different light

Created by Frances 2 years ago
A number of years ago after the death of our Mum I wrote a cathartic story about 'us kids' and life growing up on our family farm.  Life was hard and we worked hard, but we all achieved a life long moral of hard work and getting stuck in.  My memories, being 7 years younger than Collin, were obviously very different from Collin's; I recalled the chilblains, the holes in the wellington boots, the way that calves would die of pneumonia and the wheel barrow with the broken wheel, etc.  Collin's comment to my magnum opus (that some have called terrific) was - "Oh, is that how you saw it [life]?  I remember that when we played Cowboys and Indians we played with real arrows, and we climbed real trees, and we could create big dens in the straw bales...."  This for me was momentous.  I had seen a lot of the hardship, Collin had seen the potential and a different reality.  Both of us was right - but I have never forgotten that it is how you look at life that is important, and to make sure that you always see life in the best possible light.  Thank you big brother.  Miss your funny e mails.  xx
